The Question:
"Good design, when done well, should be invisible."
- Jared Spool
This infamous quote is even more true for design we see everyday like street signage. Given good design's invisibility, how do we make it visible again and still celebrate it?

The Answer:
Use the familiar in unfamiliar ways. Although we are very familiar with street signage, almost to the point of being numb to it, we are used to seeing it in specific places, sizes, designs, and scenarios. When we use these familiar symbols in a new way that the viewer isn't used to, the momentary confusion of that break with everyday reality makes people look up and take notice. The main example of this is the train leaving its warning triangle.

The Process
This project started with doing lots of research on the subject of the exhibit: Margaret Calvert and Britain's road signs. After researching, I made thumbnails of the most well known images in various layouts. These sketches served as the basis for my designs that continued to evolve as the process went on.
Flip Thru
The primary focus of this project was creating a pamphlet for the exhibit about Calvert and her work for visitors. I experimented with a couple of different page orientations but landed on a half page landscape layout. I preferred the horizontal layout since it emulates a road, one of the central focuses the exhibit.
