The Question:
How do we make a magazine about pottery for a new generation of potters?

The Answer:
Cone Ten. It all starts with a name. A 'cone' in pottery is a measurement of heat overtime in the kiln. A 'cone 10' kiln can reach temperatures of 2372˚F (1300˚C) and is considered high fire meaning it is the hottest that kilns get. Taking inspiration from this, I wanted to make a magazine that was also super hot and bright.

The Process
I started with the logotype. After deciding on the name Cone Ten, we were all attracted to my quick sketch of a triangle with a 10 in it. I played with the image, trying different fonts and outlines vs. fills. Next was incorporating the logo into the logotype. I ended up balancing the 'o' in cone on the the logo to give the idea of precariousness similar to how when throwing something on the wheel it can easily end up falling over.
