Entertainment Design

Designs that I've made for various films and shows.

What's better than a good movie?

With the abundance of choices we have today with so many streaming services it can be hard to choose what to watch. We're all familiar with the Netflix doom scroll where you spend more time deciding what to watch than actually watching it. Good design helps make the choice easier by catching your attention and letting you know what the movie is about at a glance. Below are some projects I've done.

For some of the posters, I used collage techniques to layer elements and create a sense of chaos and emotion that reflects the film's plot. In others, I focused on typography, using bold fonts and bright colors to grab the viewer's attention and convey the film's energy. Each poster in the series is unique and tells a different part of the story, capturing the spirit of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Click on each image below to learn more.

Heart of a Lion

This is a teaser poster I made for the movie "Heart of a Lion" that is a dramatized biography of George Foreman. Foreman has had a storied life of ups and downs mostly centered around his boxing career. In the style of sport dramas, I decided to make a gritty, serious poster with limited color palette. Although he has obviously won given the medal he's wearing, he isn't jumping for joy - instead he is stoic and tired from all the fighting he has had to do get to this point as well as self assured that he would make it this far.

Note: Since designing this teaser poster, the name of the movie has changed to Big George Foreman.

The Process

As always, I start by doing research and looking at reference images. I don't know a lot about sports or George Foreman so getting an overview of his life came first. Based on this research and the title of the movie, I began making sketches. I personally liked the idea of using an anatomically realistic heart but that idea ended up scrapped since it gave more horror movie vibes than sports drama. I create comps for many different ideas on my computer and made adjustments based on the assets I had. I ended up combining a few different designs to create the final image.

Behind the Bastards

I might be obsessed with podcasts...

I love podcasts and spend a good chunk of my day listening to them so I was very excited to make a podcast cover and hope to do more in the future.

Behind the Bastards

This is a podcast that talks about some of the worst people in history: their historical context, their early life, what they did, and their impact that lives on today. For every new bastard a new guest is brought on (usually a comedian). It ends up being a mix of dark humor, history and an examination of humanity.

I brainstormed and sketched many ideas - most were based on shadows or weaponry. I focused on shadows since this gets at the darkness of the podcast and also how it is about the “shadows” people cast on history. I also used ideas that incorporated weapons since many of the subjects of the podcast are violent, but also because the host is enamored with guns, knives, tanks, etc and there are many long running jokes about weapons.

I kept my color palette similar to the original since red and tones of gray reflect the darkness of the podcasts subject matter, but instead of using red as a background color I leaned more towards making it the point of focus.
